Trend for all things natural inspires Desser’s 2010 collection

Fourth generation, family-owned, cane and rattan suppliers Desser & Co will be launching their 2010 range at the Birmingham Interiors Show 24th-27th January.

By taking account of industry trends and predictions, and by working with local producers and designers in Indonesia, key pieces for Desser’s 2010 collection feature natural materials such as Kubu rattan and Lloyd Loom.

Company sales director, Mark Stewart said: “A hugely popular trend set to continue in 2010 is modern furniture featuring traditional materials such as wicker, Lloyd Loom and rattan. As people decide to improve and not move, these outside /inside pieces become key, helping people to blur the boundaries between rooms and creating the illusion of space.”

Continuing, Mark adds: “Sustainability, in every possible meaning of the word is having a great influence on design too. As we focus on more durable and eco friendly choices rattan is enjoying a resurgence in popularity. Ecologically it grows in areas that cannot support other land products, it is a good smallholder crop and provides a sustainable income to some of the poorest people living on the fringes of forests.

Our Kubu rattan range for 2010 is made by soaking and hardening skins of rattan in mud, giving it a fabulous earthy colour. It ticks all the right boxes in terms of our need for natural, well made products.”

“As for our fabrics,” says Mark “we have a great choice of English Kitsch floral and organic styles with some strong, dry-looking weaves in there too. And we have introduced a confident reassuring blue, which is a key accent colour for the new season.”

Desser & Co’s stand will be at C14 in Hall 4.
